Last week-end, the Fourth edition of the Antique book fair “China in Print” took place in Hong kong, at the Maritime Museum, with 27 international exhibitors.

Among the many fabulous books, photographs, manuscripts, maps and prints, the following manuscript of Karl Max drew my attention, along with some other drawings and prints:

I also noticed some first editions of Jane Austin’s novels, Yan Flemings’ 1953 Casino Royale…

My merchants friends explained the very strong taste Chinese clients have for big names, such as the main protagonists of the Communist philosophy or Bolshevism, Karl Marx, Engels, Lenine… along with Historical figures such as Napoleon I or the Austrian Impress SISSI.

Apparently, Art lovers started collecting autographs and letters during the late Renaissance, in the 16th century. The Humanist Erasmus was the most famous. The state of conservation of manuscripts or music partitions signed for example by Beethoven or Chopin surprised me. It looks paper adged quite well, which I did not believe.

Don’t miss next year edition…
